Performance tires need performance balancing  

Earlier this year, I completed my 30th year in the tire industry. When I first started working for my dad, customers had limited choices when purchasing replacement tires, and “performance balancing” was much simpler.

<p>If this tire develops a sidewall bulge after inflation, the blue  triangle will inform the officer that it is the result of a repair so  the only question will be whether it is within the 3/8-inch limitation.  Without the blue triangle, it is another eight points.</p>

Making customer service part of your brand  

It would be a gross exaggeration to say I’m an avid reader of anything outside the sports pages on the Web. For me to pick up a book and read it from cover to cover says a lot about the book, not to mention my interest on the subject.

Knowing what not to repair  

Nobody wants to tell a customer that a flat tire with good tread depth is junk. In fact, most drivers will accept any repair as long as the tire holds air long enough for them to get back on the road. They will even promise to get it changed out as soon as they get home, but usually return weeks later with the same tire in the same position and a mysterious case of temporary amnesia.

TPMS: It's finally getting better  

I have to admit that I struggle when coming up with titles for my articles. I’m so bad that the editors at MTD have my unconditional blessing to change the title and they usually do. But this one is different because I’m confident it’s the perfect synopsis of where the industry stands with tire pressure monitoring systems, or TPMS.
