The economy, OE tires and Sears: final notes from the Goodyear Dealer Conference

<p>The company has had fun with the Goodyear logo in its ads.</p>

Following what appears to be a record year, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. held its 2012 Dealer Conference in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 29-31. I was on hand for all the new product announcements, plus some fleet HQ announcements.

Earl Stewart has been around tires a long time. He founded Earl Stewart Toyota in the North Palm Beach, Fla., area more than 35 years ago.

Like Rodney Dangerfield, tires get no respect

If you had to pick a publication that didn't treat tires as a commodity other than Modern Tire Dealer, you might choose "BMW Magazine." The January 2011 issue about all things BMW disproved that theory.

How close are the tire shipment numbers? We grade the RMA

Back on Dec. 1, 2010, the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) released its 2010 domestic tire shipments forecast. It also made some early predictions as to how passenger, light truck and truck tire shipments would fare in 2011.
