Bob Ulrich was named Modern Tire Dealer editor in August 2000. He joined the magazine in 1985 as assistant editor, and has been responsible for gathering statistical information for MTD's "Facts Issue" since 1993. He has won numerous awards for editorial and feature writing, including five gold medals from the International Automotive Media Association. Bob earned a B.A. in English literature from Ohio Northern University and has a law degree from the University of Akron.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. and United Steelworkers Local 207L in Findlay, Ohio, started up contract negotiations again Monday, Feb. 6, in order to end the tire plant lockout that began Nov. 28, 2011.

How much will Japan's consumer tire exports to the United States be affected by its recent natural disasters -- and the possible nuclear meltdown caused by them? Only time will tell.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people in Japan, who are in the midst of an unbelievable series of tragedies that keeps getting worse. If the one-two punch of the earthquake-tsunami wasn't scary enough, the nuclear power plant meltdown in Fukushima has raised the threat level to "horrifying."
