Bob Ulrich was named Modern Tire Dealer editor in August 2000. He joined the magazine in 1985 as assistant editor, and has been responsible for gathering statistical information for MTD's "Facts Issue" since 1993. He has won numerous awards for editorial and feature writing, including five gold medals from the International Automotive Media Association. Bob earned a B.A. in English literature from Ohio Northern University and has a law degree from the University of Akron.

Sears Auto Centers may be in a state of flux

The big aftermarket news over the holiday is that Sears Holdings Corp. has announced it is closing 100 to 120 Kmart and Sears full-line stores. How many of the 837 Sears Auto Centers is unknown at this point.

Walmart: always playing catch-up, but always trying

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (which drops the hyphen whenever it can, so I will, too) may or may not be your greatest competitor. With more than 3,000 tire-selling outlets in the United States, it certainly can affect your bottom line.
