Coming off a record year financially, Yokohama Tire Corp. shook things up a little in 2011. First it promoted Dan King to senior vice president of sales and marketing.

New fuel efficiency mandates will kill some of the tire competition

Pete Gerry, owner of Pete’s Tire Barns Inc. in Orange, Mass., saves more than three million gallons of fuel per year thanks to his company’s green initiatives. He also recycles 360,000 pounds of polyurethane and close to half a million pounds of rubber annually.

Wheel weight debate?  

European wheel weights have been lead-free since 2005. Japan and South Korea are trying to follow suit. The United States is phasing out lead weights state by state.

Everybody's jumping on the BAN-wagon  

State by state, lead wheel weights are being targeted for elimination. Vermont, Maine and Washington already have enacted bills prohibiting their use. California and Iowa have pending legislation.
