A United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled on Dec. 19, 2011, that the U.S. Commerce Department's imposition of countervailing duties on China-made off-the-road (OTR) and agricultural tires in 2008 was illegal under U.S. law.

Total domestic tire shipments are projected to increase by more than 9% in 2010 compared to 2009, according to the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA). Increases in original equipment passenger, light truck and truck tire shipments were particularly signficiant.

The United States International Trade Commission has scheduled a hearing on Tuesday, June 2, to discuss the United Steelworkers' petition to apply a quota on the number of tire imports from China.
