There's nothing 'light' about light truck tires

By: Kevin Rohlwing

I had spent the year prior to my 16th birthday working at my father’s tire shop unloading and stocking tires in between janitorial duties and whitewall scrubbing. So before I could legally drive a car, I thought I understood the differences between passenger and light truck tires.

“I don’t think you should use social media for selling,” says Kevin Kraft, co-owner of Kraft Tire in Marlborough, Mass. “There are other avenues for that. You want to post things people can relate to.”

Social media

By now, you’ve probably heard of Facebook and Twitter. You may even be familiar with YouTube and LinkedIn. These platforms are part of what’s popularly called “social media,” the latest Internet age phenomenon.

The Bridgestone WS-70 will be available in July.

Still revolving and evolving

Twenty-two years ago, Bridgestone Corp. introduced the ground-breaking Blizzak studless winter tire to the world. Seventeen years ago, the company’s United States subsidiary introduced the Blizzak WS-15 to domestic tire dealers.

Cooper designed the Weather-Master WSC with premium vehicles, like the BMW X3, in mind.

Cooper hears voices

When Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. wanted to find out what its dealers thought about its winter tire offerings last year, it started its “Voice of the Customer” campaign. The dealers didn’t hold back.

Ready, set, goals

It’s pretty darn hard to get from here to there without a road map. Laying out your goals bridges the gap between who you are today and the person you sketched out in your mission statement. Yet when I ask people all over the country whether they write up their goals each year, barely one in 10 say they have. But that 10% gushes over how spelling out their goals transformed their lives.

Put the brakes on VW vibration

Volkswagen drivers may complain of a pulsating brake pedal when applying the brakes at highway speeds. The pulsation may also be felt as a vibration in the vehicle body. Additionally, the steering wheel may shake. The cause may be improperly machined brakes, and the condition may not be felt until several months after the brakes were machined. To correct the problem, follow these steps.

Bob Ulrich's Editorial

A tale of two tariffs

One was imposed on consumer tire imports from China. The other soon may be imposed on passenger tires imported from Thailand. Not surprisingly, the United Steelworkers union supports both.

Focus on the Industry

“We’re not in the luxury item business,” says Billy Eordekian, president of 1-800EveryRim.com LLC, which sells used wheels to independent tire dealerships, body shops and other businesses throughout the country. “We sell a necessity.”

Rolling with the punches

In a bad economy, when fewer car owners are exchanging their original equipment rims for shiny, new custom wheels, you would think a used wheel broker like Billy Eordekian would be hurting due to lack of inventory.
