RMA: nearly 6 million more units in 2012

Tire shipments in 2012 are projected to increase by approximately 2% -- nearly 6 million units -- to 290 million units, according to the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA).

Sales are up, profitability is down for Toyo

Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd. posted net income of 4.1 billion yen on net sales of 241.6 billion yen for the first nine months of its 2011 fiscal year. That compares to income of 5.1 billion yen on sales of 226.5 billion yen for the same period the previous year.

Yokohama CEO: Japan still recovers from tsunami

Yasushi Tanaka assumed the reins as Yokohama Tire Corp.’s (YTC) president and CEO in July, 2011. Tanaka came from YTC’s parent company, Tokyo, Japan-based Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. (YRC), where he was instrumental in developing the company’s Grand Design 100 corporate philosophy.

Yokohama: six-month income drops as sales rise

Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. recorded net income of 294 million yen on net sales of 258.2 billion yen for the first six months of fiscal 2011 ended Sept. 30. That compares to income of 1.2 billion yen on sales of 238.3 billion yen for the same period last year.

Dave Harmon and Gregg Caldwell thought they were shooting a video for Facebook. Instead they captured the 5.8 magnitude earthquake felt up and down the Eastern U.S. yesterday.
