SEMA Show, Day One: TIA resolves to...

Larry Brandt took over as president of the Tire Industry Association (TIA) at the organization's annual meeting on Oct. 31. He took over from Mike Berra, who for the next year will be the immediate past president.

Free trade agreement with Korea affects tires

President Barack Obama has signed into law a renewal of the United States Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), which was part of a trade pact originally agreed to between the U.S. and the Republic of Korea in 2007. And the Tire Industry Association couldn't be happier about the result.

Chinese tire tariffs could be eliminated

Will the United States government continue to levy a 35% tariff on Chinese consumer tire imports until Sept. 26, 2010? Probably, but it is possible that the tariff will be amended or eliminated.

Cooper responds to tariffs on Chinese-made tires

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. was one of two domestic tire manufacturers to take sides on the issue of increasing tariffs on Chinese consumer tire imports. Both Cooper and Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas Inc. came out against imposing additional tariffs.
