Survey compares car dealers to independents

Prices that are too high and the inability to perform repairs properly are the main reasons that car owners become dissatisfied with auto repair shops, according to the latest "Consumer Reports" subscriber survey. But how do independent repair shops compare to car dealerships?

More tire price hikes are on the way, Ludwig predicts

“Last month I wrote that due to sharply lower raw material costs during 4Q11 I would not expect to see any further tire price hikes anytime soon. Unfortunately that was a wrong call because predictability of future raw material prices is all but impossible,” says tire industry analyst Saul Ludwig in the latest installment of the "Ludwig Report" in Modern Tire Dealer magazine.

Yokohama to raise consumer tire prices

Yokohama Tire Corp. announced today it will increase prices by up to 8% on all of its consumer tires sold in the U.S., which include passenger, performance and light truck tires. The increase will go into effect March 1, with some in-line adjustments announced at a later date.

Continental to raise prices on truck tires

Continental Tire the Americas LLC (CTA) reports it is raising prices on all Continental, General and Ameri*Steel brand commercial truck tires up to 9%. This increase is effective Feb. 15, 2012, and affects all replacement sales channels in the U.S.

Yokohama OKs OTR price increases on Jan. 1

Yokohama tire Corp. will raise prices on its OTR tires up to 15% effective Jan. 1, 2012. The company cited "global supply pressures and elevated manufacturing and transportation costs" as the reasons for the increases.

Cooper to raise prices up to 5%, Armes reports

Roy Armes, chairman, CEO and president of the Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., says in its third quarter, the company was able to show improvement in its margins “even with the persistent challenges of high raw material costs and sluggish demand in key markets and product lines where we have significant exposure. Our sales growth resulted in the company's first quarter with over $1 billion of sales.”
