A solution to the Chinese tire import controversy?

Chinese consumer tire imports are the hottest topic in the tire industry, and President Barack Obama finds himself in the hot seat.

Will he accept or reject the proposal of additional tariffs (55% in the first year) set forth by the United States International Trade Commission? Will he amend it? Will he support the recommendations from the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (whatever they are)?

Or will he decide to do something completely different?

With the Sept. 17 deadline approaching, Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich weighs in on the controversy with what he believes is a reasonable compromise.

   Your offer is generous. But there is no need for this conversation at all. The US tire manufacturers are against it. This is solely a Union maneuver taking advantage of Obama. Obama should let this one pass and save the fight with China on something that will truly effect the US economy.
