Battery/electrical service: $600 million in sales

Independent tire dealers in the United States performed more than 5 million battery/electrical jobs representing close to $600 million in sales in 2009.

The 2009-2010 Modern Tire Dealer Automotive Service Survey breaks down battery and electrical service per store. Battery/electrical work represents 3.5% of all automotive service dollars.

Seventy-eight percent of the respondents performed this service, broken out per location as follows:

Average ticket price per job: $116.24

Average number of jobs per month: 19

Average yearly sales: $26,503

Average profit margin: 34%

Annual profit per location: $9,011

The MTD Automotive Service Survey breaks down the various service segments so that you have a benchmark to which you can compare your own dealership's performance.

It covers everything from air conditioning service to shock and strut work. Previously, we addressed engine diagnostics, exhaust service and brake service.
