Hercules begins recall of certain SUV tires
Hercules Tire & Rubber Co. is recalling "certain Hercules Terra Trac SUV tires" due to a defect that may lead to tread chunking or cracking in the tread shoulder area.
The tires in question are size 245/70R17 produced between Nov. 15 and Dec. 12, 2009, by Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), these tires fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 139, "New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles."
(For more information on the recall, click NHTSA Campaign ID Number 10T004.)
Hercules already has notified NHTSA, and says it will notify owners and replace the tires free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin this month.
For more information, owners may contact either Cooper Tire's Customer Relations department toll-free at (800) 854-6288, or Hercules at (419) 425-6400.
