What are the latest changes in oil changes?

Oil changes are not a high-ticket item in the automotive aftermarket. There is way too much competition.

The result? The average oil change in 2011 cost $20.55.

However, the importance of the oil change to your business cannot be overstated. At least that's what Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Urlich is suggesting.

In his latest B.O.B. blog, Ulrich tracks the advertised cost of an oil change over the years (with a little help from the 2012 MTD Facts Issue). He also lets others weigh in an how important that service may be.

Ironically we just did our own survey re oil change costs, specifically re Dexos and 0w20 changes. Prices in our areas are somewhat higher, with most Quik Lubes in our area not having a clue about Dexos. A Tire dealer proclaimed that his 22.99 regular oil was ok for cars requiring Dexos and GM was just bsing the public. One location never heard of 0w20 oil. Kind of scary considering the potential harm that can be done. A whole lot of education needs to be done!
