Conti designs a tire for low platform trailers

A new low platform trailer tire from Continental Tire the Americas LLC offers "a unique combination of structural durability and improved fuel economy," according to the company.

The Continental HTL2 Eco Plus (Heavy Trailer, Long-haul) is available for commercial trucks in three Load Range J sizes:

1. 215/75R17.5,

2. 235/75R17.5 and

3. 245/70R17.5.

Clif Armstrong, director of commercial tire marketing in the Americas, says the  HTL2 Eco Plus is designed for high cube applications, but also incorporates Continental’s exclusive compounding for low rolling resistance and increased fuel savings at cooler operating temperatures.

The tire’s tread pattern has a patented groove design that reduces stone retention for increased casing life, and an innovative groove geometry that promotes efficient water evacuation, traction and wet braking capabilities throughout the tire’s life.

Sturdy, 18-ply construction allows the tire to operate efficiently at heavy capacity with long original mileage and low overall cost per mile, adds Armstrong.
