Penray diesel cleaner targets asphaltenes

Posted on February 27, 2014

Penray Companies Inc. has introduced Penray Total Diesel Fuel System Cleaner, a proprietary cleaner that dissolves and disperses asphaltenes and other diesel fuel contaminants.

The presence of water and sludge in diesel fuel can contribute to the formation of tar-like asphaltenes, according to Penray. This substance can develop with many current fuel formulations, particularly so with Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel (ULSD) and bio-fuels which can lack the aromatic solvents that were previously part of diesel fuel blends. In addition, the growth of asphaltenes is exacerbated by newer, hotter-running engines, and operation in warmer climate conditions.

The company says its proprietary diesel fuel system cleaner removes asphaltenes and other diesel fuel contaminants from fuel tanks, fuel filters, fuel injectors, and lines, and prevents their recurrence.

Benefits of the Penray product include greatly extended fuel filter life, as well as that of injectors and other precision fuel system components. Maintenance costs are reduced, and fuel economy is increased.

In addition to fighting asphaltenes, this Penray product also serves as a total fuel system cleaner, with solvents and detergents that dissolve deposits and loosen debris so it can be captured by the fuel filter before it can reach the precision inner workings of fuel injectors and other fuel system components, according to Penray.

“Asphaltenes are a recent phenomenon and have appeared since the introduction of ULSD and bio-fuels. A task-specific product like our Total Diesel Fuel System Cleaner is needed to break down asphaltenes and prevent their recurrence,” says Steve Muth, chief chemist.

Established in 1954, Penray is a specialty chemical company offering maintenance and specialty products in aerosol and liquid versions. For more information, visit www.Penray.com.
