Vipal Rubber Corp. announced that it recently hosted retreading companies, including White's Tire Service Inc., Wilson, N.C., from eight countries in Latin America, North America and Europe, to see its factory in Feira de Santana in Bahia, Brazil. White’s Tire Service is number 44 on the 2014 MTD Top 100 Retreaders in the U.S. list.

In addition to White's, the retreaders hosted by Vipal were: Jamaica Ultimate Tyre, Jamaica; Recauchutagem São Mamede, Portugal; Revipal, Spain; Tatko Servis Kaucuk Otomotiv Tic, Turkey; and Techno Pneu Inc., Canada.

In a separate visit the company hosted participants from Alba Tyre Management Ltd., Scotland and Ujhartyani Gumifotozo KFT, Hungary.

The Feira de Santana factory has 900 employees and has earned the ISO 9001 certification. Its structure includes environmentally friendly practices such as rainwater collection, a wastewater treatment system, comfortable temperatures in industrial pavilions (thermal isolation and ventilation), natural lighting and green areas.

Vipal says it is present on every continent and has designated one of its three factories in Brazil to produce solely for the international market. Vipal's main markets are in Europe, North America and Latin America.

In order to meet the needs of each location, which include technical requirements and cultural, geographic and legal differences, as well as maintaining authorized retreaders, permanent regional teams and distribution centers in strategic locations, the company says it invests in developing specific products to perform in different regions.

Currently, in addition to its three factories in Brazil, Vipal has distribution centers in the United States, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Slovenia, Australia, Colombia, Argentina and Chile.

Cost Pressures Will Likely Continue to Build

According to the results of our survey, demand for passenger and light truck replacement tires declined in March. Indeed, from a volume standpoint, the dealers reported they sold 0.8% fewer tires in March relative to the previous year’s period. The decline marks the third straight month of poor results versus the prior year’s period. However, on more a positive note, trends improved sequentially.
