Mandatory Tire Registration: Clear Heads Are Needed

Posted on November 16, 2015

Would it be sensationalistic to say all tires in use in the United States are defective? Believe it or not, it happened back in 1976.

Sensationalism helps with increasing readership (newspapers) or ratings (television), but little else. It can even keep opposing sides from coming together efficiently, respectfully and successfully.

Mandatory tire registration is a hot-button topic that lends itself to sensationalism. Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich wants to make sure that doesn't happen, especially in any discussions between the Tire Industry Association and Rubber Manufacturers Association. In his latest blog, he addresses the issue with the help of a story about tire registration recently published in a Festus, Mo., newspaper.

To find out where Ulrich is coming from -- and where the humor comes from -- read "Keep Sensationalism Out of the Tire Registration Debate."

What are your thoughts about tire registration? What do you think of the article in the Missouri newspaper -- was it amusing or too close to home? Read the blog, then let us know what you think by leaving a comment!
