Bartec USA LLC has hired wheel and tire service trainer Sean MacKinnon in the role of national sales manager-north.

MacKinnon comes to Bartec from the Tire Industry Association (TIA), where he was director of automotive training and development.

Bartec says MacKinnon is widely known as a wheel and tire service expert and leading industry trainer, and will bring his vast knowledge of tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and tire service to its North American sales team.

“Bartec has always operated with the ‘train first, sell second’ philosophy and Sean brings a truckload of experience and knowledge and will be a huge asset for our distributor partners and the end users of our products,” says Bartec CEO Scot Holloway.

The company needed someone with a solid automotive service background as it expanded its product line into other service areas, according Holloway.

Bartec says it continues to see a significant rise in the demand for its line of TPMS tools and solutions, which makes MacKinnon’s background in TPMS especially valuable. “Sean has a solid ability to manage sales, marketing and product training and he has the right balance of sales and technical expertise, which makes him an asset on day one,” says Steve Long, Bartec’s director of sales.

As a certified automotive tire service (ATS) trainer, MacKinnon will also keep the entire Bartec sales force certified and current with vehicle technology.

MacKinnon joins Dennis Flannery and Kelly Nugent on Bartec’s national sales team.

The Sales Counter Moved Again: And the Sales Floor is Now on the Smartphone

The sales counter just moved. Well, it didn’t “just-move,” it’s been moving. In my early days of selling tires at retail, it all happened in a small area at the store known as the sales floor. Consumers called or visited the store where the initial details of a potential sale were discussed. Today, the initial discussion is digital. The salesperson at the store had a great deal of control because the product and pricing information resided with the salesperson at the store. Today, there’s plenty of product and pricing information available to the consumer before they call or visit.
