Bradley Ragan Jr., Owner of Two Retreading Companies, Has Died

Bradley Ragan Jr., the owner of B.R. Retreading Inc. in Glasgow, Ky., and RDH Tire and Retread Co., in Cleveland, N.C., died on Jan. 1, 2017. He was 70.

Ragan was born Oct. 1, 1946. He graduated from Sewanee Military Academy in Tennessee in 1965 and from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1969.

In the 1970s, he was an owner/operator of Carolina Tire retail tire stores. In 1979, he took over for his father, Bradley Ragan Sr., as chairman and CEO of Brad Ragan Inc.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. bought into the Carolina Tire store chain in the 1970s. In 1999, Goodyear assumed 100% control and closed or converted the stores to Goodyear Automotive Centers two years later. There were 86 Brad Ragan/Carolina Tire stores in seven states when the chain ceased operations.

Ragan continued his leadership in the tire industry as owner of B.R. Retreading and RDH Tire and Retread.

His obituary stated he died “doing what he loved, out with his dogs at the hunting camp.”

He leaves his daughter, Erin Kathleen Ragan Becker (Gareth) and their son, Percy Martyn Ragan Becker; son, Bradley James Ragan and his daughter Lillian Carleen Ragan; and son, Scott Elder Ragan (Alyssa Lynn) and their daughters, Elsie Hayes Ragan and Addison Louise Ragan.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at Summersett Funeral Home in Salisbury, N.C. The service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at Summersett Memorial Chapel.
