Cooper’s Zeon RS3-G1 Tire Wins International Design Award

Posted on January 10, 2017

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has won a 2016 Good Design Award for the Zeon RS3-G1, a new all-season passenger car tire for high performance vehicles.

The Good Design Award program is organized annually by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

The program recognizes new consumer products designed and manufactured in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North and South America. The award is based on criteria including innovative design, new technologies, form, materials, construction, concept, function, utility, energy efficiency, and sensitivity to the environment.

“The Cooper Zeon RS3-G1 is a breakthrough tire in the ultra-high performance category, with innovations that deliver incredible grip, holding the road at up to 1g in tight corners—a marvel of cutting edge technology for an all-season tire,” says Scott Jamieson, Cooper’s director of product management for North America.

“Cooper is honored to have earned this recognition for our Cooper Zeon RS3-G1 tire,” Jamieson says. “It has been earning rave reviews for its ability to hold the road in wet or dry conditions, and we’re thrilled to add this award to its accomplishments.”

Alongside a sleek race-inspired sidewall, the Zeon RS3-G1 tread compound and design deliver a host of innovative features to create grip, stability and durability, according to Cooper.

The Cooper Zeon RS3-G1 has been designed with more rubber on the outside shoulder and intermediate rib to grip and provide stability during cornering maneuvers and to reduce tire noise.

The tire also provides longer-lasting biting edges due to its 3D full-depth sipes, which go deep into the tread elements. The sipes help the tire tread blocks maintain a stable shape during acceleration, braking and cornering. Cooper says the full-depth aspect of the sipes means that even when the tire is half-worn, there are still sipes to provide biting edges for consistent performance.
