TIA's Kevin Rohlwing presented the U.S. OTR industry forecast for 2017 to conference attendees on Thursday.

The 2017 Off-the-Road (OTR) Tire Conference has begun! Hosted by the Tire Industry Association (TIA) at the Turtle Bay Resort in Oahu, Hawaii, the conference will run through Saturday, Feb. 18.

Managing Editor Lori Mavrigian is covering the event for Modern Tire Dealer.

At Thursday's General Session, Kevin Rohlwing, senior vice president of training for TIA, announced the first TIA-certified earthmover tire training class be held June 19-23 in Garner, Iowa. It will be hosted by Stellar Industries Inc.

Mavrigian also caught up with John Collins, who recently signed a letter of intent to sell American Crane Inc. (ACI) and Tire Trucks International (TTl) to Stellar Industries. All three businesses are based in Garner, Iowa.

Is Collins truly retiring after 55 years in the industry?

Yes. And no. Although he will no longer be president of ACI and TTI, he will continue to market the SuperCharger, his patented, 10,000 psi hydraulic system.

Collins worked on perfecting the SuperCharger for 30 years. It is designed to operate jacks and bead breaking tools.

The 2018 OTR Tire Conference will be held Feb. 21-24 at the Sawgrass Marriott in St. Augustine, Fla.
