Bauer Built Awards $6,000 in Annual Scholarships

Since 1994 Bauer Built Inc. has recognized the children and grandchildren of its employees through the G. F. “Sam” and Ethel V. Bauer/Bauer Built Inc. Scholarship program. Four high school seniors have earned the prize in 2017.

Bauer Built introduced the program in 1994 to commemorate the company's 50th anniversary and honor its founders, G. F. “Sam” and Ethel V. Bauer. The company has awarded $102,000 in scholarships since the program's inception.

Each winner will receive $1,500.

Daniela Ballines is the daughter of Omar and Ariadnna Ballines. Omar is a heavy duty service technician at the Bauer Built Tire Center in Romeoville, Ill. Daniela plans to attend Aurora University in Aurora, Ill. to study health and science.

Skylar Harmon is the daughter of Stacey and Jodi Harmon of Chehalis, Wash., and the granddaughter of Brad and Fay Harmon of Chetek, Wis. Brad is an outside sales representative in the Durand wholesale department at the corporate office in Durand. Skylar plans to attend the University of Washington in Seattle to study biology and premedicine.

Mariah Weiss is the daughter of Mark and Karen Weiss of Durand, Wis. Mark is an outside sales representative at the Bauer Built Tire Center in Durand, Wis. Mariah plans to attend the University of Wisconsin in River Falls and study animal science.

Ashleigh White is the daughter of Donnie and Brenda White. Donnie is an outside sales representative at the Bauer Built Tire Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Ashleigh plans to attend the Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny and study environmental science.

To be eligible, applicants must be a Bauer Built employee, or a child, stepchild or grandchild of a Bauer Built employee who is graduating from high school and enrolled in a post-secondary course of instruction. Each applicant must submit a hand-written essay on the field of study being pursued along with his or her career goals, two letters of recommendation, and verification of grade-point average with their application.

Bauer Built has been in business for 73 years, and has 35 tire locations, seven Michelin Retread Technology retread plants, and four wheel-refinishing operations. The company also operates a bulk petroleum business from its headquarters in Durand.

Bauer Built is No. 10 on Modern Tire Dealer's Top U.S. Commercial Tire Dealers list, and No. 33 on the MTD 100.
