Fredric Aasbo Takes Title Fight To Montreal

Posted on July 14, 2017

Two-time Formula Drift Canada winner Fredric Aasbo is returning to Montreal this weekend to take on Round 5 of the 2017 Formula Drift Championship at Autodrome St-Eustache.

The Rockstar Energy Drink driver said he's excited about reuniting with his Papadakis Racing team after a month spent competing closer to home in Europe.

"By the mid-point in the season the team is into a rhythm, the pressure is off, and competition weekends feel like a really fun road trip with friends that happens to have some incredible drifting at the heart of it," said Aasbo. "Can there be anything better than that? I'm excited to hit the track on Friday."

With back-to-back wins at the Canadian stop (2016 and 2015) Aasbo is a favorite for a strong result this weekend. True North is the only Formula Drift championship round held outside the United States. It is the first time the team's new 2017 Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla iM appears in Canada.

"The Autodrome St-Eustache drift track is tight and technical, and there are always a few locals that turn up and blow everybody away with their skills," said Aasbo. "Even though I've won twice there, the competition was very close both times and I'm excited to get back and throw down again this weekend."

Aasbo is currently third in the Formula Drift standings and returns to the series after a month spent in his native country of Norway. Last weekend, he won the Gatebil Super 3 competition in the drift-prepared GT-86 he uses for competition in Europe.
