Who is Dave Marks? He is the new CEO and president of the Independent Tire Dealers Group LLC (ITDG). He replaced Michael Cox, who retired on Aug. 1, 2017.

He also has more than 35 years of experience in the automotive industry. But who is Dave Marks?

In 1978, his career path began at a Big Brand Tire & Off-Road store in Ventura, Calif. He then joined the former EMPCO Industries Inc., where he was a regional sales manager.

After Falken Tire Corp. purchased EMPCO, he stayed on until an opportunity to run nine independent Goodyear retail stores for Toscalito Enterprises Inc. was too good to pass up. From there it was on to TDW (Tire Dealer's Warehouse), a division of Hercules Tire and Rubber Co., which was an approved vendor of ITDG. After American Tire Distributors Inc. bought Hercules, he stayed on as western sales director.

He joined Tireco Inc. shortly thereafter to run TDX (Tire Distributor Xperts) as sales director.

When he left Tireco to preside over the ITDG, he already had dealt with many of the ITDG members through his previous positions. “I’ve been friends and had close relationships with many of the ITDG members,” he says.

Before joining ITDG, Marks also had worked closely with both Cox and Ed Long, ITDG’s former executive vice president of sales and marketing. Long says he chose to move on after Cox retired. Chris Barry, western regional manager, will be staying on, says Marks.

Cox and Long ran ITDG from their home base in Florida. Will Marks, who lives in northern California, move the offices there? "Nothing has been determined as yet, but it's full speed ahead in adding value to all of our partners," says Marks.
