Nitto introduces the NT90W winter tire

The Nitto NT90W winter tire will be available in 16 through 20-inch sizes.

Nitto Tire U.S.A. Inc. introduced its NT90W studless winter tire at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Feb. 27, 2013.

The tire's technological features include the following:

* advanced three-dimensional, multi-wave siping; and

* a silica-infused compound.

The full-depth, winter tire compounding also was formulated with crushed walnut shells (designed to scratch and bite into ice and snow for improved traction) and "bamboo charcoal" (which absorbs water on the road surface).

Designed for passenger cars, SUVs and cross-over vehicles, the NT90W is available in eight T-rated sizes ranging from 215/70R16 100T to 235/65R18 106T.

William Hong, Nitto's marketing analyst and project coordinator, says 20-inch sizes will be added to the range; by the end of the year, there will be 13 total sizes.
