Wal-Mart begins tire advertising push(?!)

Wal-Mart has started to advertise tires more regularly. And unlike Sears Holdings Corp., Wal-Mart's advertising includes prices.

This is a new direction for Wal-Mart, which has more than 3,700 tire-selling outlets in the United States.

What tire brands are the company advertising? To find out, read Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich's latest bog, "It's official! Wal-Mart advertises tire prices."

As you might guess, the prices seem pretty low, and are backed by Wal-Mart's "low price guarantee," which matches prices on identical products in any other ad.

What do you think of Wal-Mart advertising tires? Are your prices that low? Is Wal-Mart a strong competitor in your area? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment!

I have 46 years in the tire & auto service, the small independent is a on the indangered specices list. I remembered in the 1960's when manufactures discouraged dealers from telling who manufactured the mior brands we sold. Today they have combined the names together when you have enough money to purchase large volumes of tires. Example Wall-Mart Goodyear Viva 2, Goodyear Tracker truck tires, Sears Michelin Weather- Master, Michelin LTD truck tires, Bridgestone built Sears private label, Sams Club tires Michelin X. They have created a preception that they are the lowest price by marketing there own private label tires with the Major Brand name on them. Consumers think this is the major brand tire not knowing it is only sold by them. If it said for example Sams X Radial and was marketed like other house or private labels, which does not speicfy who made them then we would be on a more leverl playing field. Also a lot of people shop Sears because they have a Sears credit card and will get more off is it is used, same as Goodyear will off an addional $80 off is you buy it with a Goodyear credit card, and the only ones who have it is Goodyear company owned stores or authorized dealers. Bridgestone/Firestone now gurantees lowest price on any tire they sell, this has destroyed their TireStarz and Allied dealer program because any town that has a company store the consumer will get a price from their local independent dealer take it to Bridgestone/Firestone and they will beat that price, if you don't have a store within 25 miles you can do ok selling there brand. Another problem today is we have the majority of the wholsalers opening there own stores or selling on line such as American Tire Distributors that has TireBuyer on line selling directley to the consumer. Also tire distributors sells wholesale to anyone who has a sales tax number or they bill them threw one of there house accounts. Also most Wall-Mart cosumers probally will not call you they will just go there an

I think it is not fare to small family owened shops that they can buy tires that are what we call "Walmart only special tires" for next to nothing. The only thing we can rely on to get people to come to us is our service, and thats something we really shine in but it only goes so far in the real world now days. Sometimes, somehow we beat there prices but end the end it still hurts guys like us.

Cheap prices but you get what you pay for with these guys. Just hope they don't have a mechanical problem like a wheel stud or ABS bearing damaged during the tire installation because you will be going somewhere else to fix it.

yeah my cousin went to walmart to change her oil and a tire got 3 new tires on front and drove 5 miles and tire just came off the rim they did not seal the tire properly and about a month later her dashboard lights all came on and the truck would not move . well come to find out they did not put the oil filter on properly and it fell. Now they had to put a new motor in the van cause no oil in the truck blew the motor $2000 worth of damage and walmart will not do anything . they will not take responsibility
