Bridgestone Bandag plant honored for safety
Bridgestone Americas Inc. announced that its Bandag retreading facility in Oxford, N.C., has been recognized by the North Carolina Department of Labor as a Carolina Star Worksite. This is the state’s highest health and safety honor, awarded to organizations with exceptional safety and health systems.
“We are incredibly honored to be selected as a Carolina Star Worksite by the North Carolina Department of Labor,” says Steve Shelton, senior vice president of Technology, Manufacturing and Procurement, Bridgestone Americas Manufacturing Group.
“This award for exceptional health and safety management systems is a testament to the outstanding team we have at our Oxford facility. Facilities like our Bridgestone Bandag Retread Plant show that superior manufacturing and workplace safety can go hand-in-hand.”
The Carolina Star program is patterned after the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), which promotes and encourages effective worksite-based safety and health.
Nine Bridgestone Americas’ facilities have achieved OSHA’s highest honor, including three of the company’s tire manufacturing plants. Bridgestone Americas has the only tire facilities that have achieved OSHA VPP Star status.
