Yokohama helps Philippine typhoon victims

The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. and its overseas group companies have made donations to the Red Cross in their respective countries to support that organization's efforts to aid victims of the devastating typhoon that struck the Philippines in November 2013.

In addition to a 5 million yen ($47,752) donation by Yokohama Rubber to the Red Cross in Japan, eight group subsidiaries in Germany, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Australia and the United States have contributed a total of 3.6 million yen.

In addition, three subsidiaries in the Philippines and elsewhere will contribute an additional 4.5 million yen, bringing the Yokohama Rubber Group's total contribution to 13.1 million yen.

Typhoon Haiyan, the year's strongest typhoon, struck the Philippines on November 8 and inflicted massive damage in the country's central region. According to data released by the Philippines national disaster agency on December 13, the typhoon's death toll now stands at more than 6,000 people, with about another 1,800 still missing. More than 27,000 people were injured, and some 3.9 million were forced to evacuate their homes.

Shortly after the terrible typhoon struck in the Philippines we received an email from a company called Optimumtread, Inc.located in the Philippines to join the Retread Tire Association, which they did. Although we are not a large organization we wanted to show our appreciation to them and our concern for the people in their country. Therefore, we donated 50% of their dues contribution to the Red Cross for the Philippine recovery.
