Editor Bob Ulrich has earned a reputation as an industry expert thanks to his insightful, in-depth articles on the tire industry. Before joining Modern Tire Dealer in 1985, Bob earned a B.A. in English literature from Ohio Northern University. Also, he graduated from the University of Akron School of Law with a J.D. of Law.
Lori Mavrigian joined Modern Tire Dealer in 1979 as assistant editor. She held several key positions leading to her current title of managing editor, a post she also holds for MTD’s sister publication Auto Service Professional. Mavrigian also is the liaison between MTD and its National Advisory Council. She earned a B.A. in Mass Media-Communications at the University of Akron, where she worked on the college newspaper and at the campus’ PBS television station.
After more than a dozen years working as a newspaper reporter in Kansas, Indiana and Pennsylvania, Joy Kopcha joined Modern Tire Dealer as senior editor in 2014. She has covered murder trials, a prison riot and more city council, county commission and school board meetings than she cares to remember.
Ann Neal began writing dealer profiles on a freelance basis for Modern Tire Dealer in 2011. She became associate editor in 2013. Her experience includes more than two decades managing employee, financial and marketing communications and Web content in the commercial trucking industry. She has a B.A. in Mass Media Communications from the University of Akron.
Mike Mavrigian, Modern Tire Dealer's Technical Writer, has written for the magazine since 1977. He also owns and operates Birchwood Automotive Group, a business involved in a wide array of automotive aspects from building project vehicles to writing technical how-to service books. Among the many editorial awards he has received over the years, Mike earned the Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award for “Best Technical Article” in 2009. The award-winning article, published in Motor magazine, discussed specific tire technology issues. Mike graduated from Youngstown (Ohio) State University and is certified member of the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).
Neal Weingart has been the Art Director for Modern Tire Dealer since December of 1998. He has been employed in the field of graphic design since 1980, and also runs his own business. Neal Weingart Inc.
Greg Smith, publisher of Modern Tire Dealer is responsible for the brand’s business operations. MTD is where Greg got his start, and through most of the last three decades, has led it to tire market prominence. A 36-year veteran of automotive trade publishing, Greg Smith has held various publishing positions at the management level. He has worked extensively on both the editorial and publishing sides of the business and is a recognized expert in the aftermarket and tire industries. As such, he is a frequent speaker at many industry events. He has traveled internationally as an advocate for the industries he serves. Greg is also the publisher of Auto Service Professional magazine. From his early years in the market, Greg has been active participating on industry committees and boards. Among the early ones were APAA and ASIA, and has since participated in AWDA, SEMA, NTDRA, TIA and TANA. Greg graduated cum laude from the University of Akron with a B.A. in Mass Media.
Karen Runion has had many positions since joining Modern Tire Dealer in 1974 -- from an assistant in the production department and secretary to the MTD Staff to her current position as Production Manager and Office Manager. As Production Manager, her duties include working with advertisers and their advertising agencies.
Pam Zsely joined the staff of Modern Tire Dealer in 1996 as Administrative Assistant. Along with her secretarial duties, she also handles the purchase of back issues and the much read Facts section of the magazine. Prior to joining the magazine she worked 20+ years as a production clerk at the Babcock & Wilcox Co.
Dan has been in media sales for automotive aftermarket publications since 1988 in a variety of roles. His 25+ years in the vehicle maintenance industry provides advertisers valuable industry knowledge and experience with campaigns directed at automotive / truck service providers.
Marianne graduated from the University of Southern California with a BS in Marketing Management. For the last twenty plus years, she has sold media in all facets of the automotive aftermarket including distribution, service, tire and collision repair.
