MINExpo International 2016 may be the closest our industry gets to a Big Three trade show reunion. Bridgestone Americas Inc., Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and, at least as a guest star, Michelin North America Inc. all had a major presence at the exposition, which is held every four years in Las Vegas. Bridgestone is even a featured exhibitor.

The three-day show opened Sept. 26 and will end today. Although final attendance numbers have yet to be released, exhibitor space in the Las Vegas Convention Center was sold out.

Given the size of the tires and equipment, it is not surprising exhibitor space totaled more than 840,000 square feet -- and that was just indoors.

The 2016 Global Tire Expo powered by the Tire Industry Association will be held in conjunction with the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show at the same Las Vegas Convention Center Nov. 1-4, but none of the Big Three tire manufacturers will be exhibiting their flagship commercial or retail brands (Michelin will have a BFGoodrich booth outside the convention center.

And that is too bad for the Global Tire Expo (GTE) attendees. GTE is the largest tire industry show in North America, and it always says something when the biggest tire manufacturers in the U.S. don't have a presence on the trade show floor (of course, executives from non-exhibiting tire companies will be there to meet privately with some of its dealers).

There are still plenty of big tire companies at GTE to make it worth the trip, but in my perfect world, all the tire companies make the effort.

So until that happens, we can enjoy MINExpo, where:

* Bridgestone showcased its Mining Technology Solutions.

* Goodyear introduced a 63-inch OTR tire.

* Michelin unveiled an original equipment fitment on the Volvo A60H 55-ton articulated  dump truck, the largest in the world. Michelin did not have a booth, choosing to display the tire on the A60H in the AB Volvo booth.

Other big OTR tire companies are in attendance, too. BKT USA Inc., Continental Tire the Americas LLC (through its Continental Commercial Specialty Tires division), Titan International Inc. and Yokohama Tire Corp. have booths that display plenty of new products.

OTR tire manufacturers from China (GTC North America, for one) and the Netherlands (Magna Tyres Group) also are represented, as are tire-related product manufacturers and marketers.
