Bridgestone is introducing five tires into the replacement market in 2019. Two are branded Bridgestone; the other three are Firestone tires.

The Bridgestone Blizzak WS 10 was launched in Steamboat Springs in January. Information about the Turanza QuietTrack was released in April (“Bridgestone Turanza QuietTrack Offers Year-Round Performance”).

That leaves the three Firestone lines, which are being introduced to U.S. and Canadian dealers the week of May 12 at the Texas Motor Speedway in Ft. Worth, Texas. There is already some information on the Firestone Weathergrip, an all-weather touring tire, on the firestone.com website. It is available for sale.

The latest additions to the Firestone Destination family of tires, however, are not. One is an on- and off-road tire; the other is an off-road tire.

Coincidentally, I find myself in Ft. Worth this week. Here is my sneak peek at the Destination A/T2 and the Destination X/T, which won’t be available for purchase until August.

1. Destination A/T2. Like the A/T, the A/T2 is not replacing the A/T, although both are all-terrain truck and SUV tires. The new A/T2 is also an all-weather tire available in P-metric sizes. It is backed by a 55,000-mile limited tread wear warranty (versus 50,000 miles for the A/T). The A/T2 features the following:

* an aggressive shoulder tread pattern, which helps improve off-road handling.

* full-depth interlocking 3D sipe technology, designed to provide even wear and consistent performance throughout the life of the tire.

* an increased surface and see-through void, engineered to improve water evacuation.

Here’s another difference. The AT/2 is stamped with the 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol.

Bridgestone says top fitments for the Destination AT/2 at the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram 1500, Chevy Tahoe and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

2. Destination X/T. Although in some cases the X/T nomenclature has been used to represent the new R/T (for rugged terrain) category, that is not Bridgestone’s intent here. The X/T is a more rugged version of the A/T2; it is available in LT sizes. When the A/T2 and X/T become available in August, the Destination A/T will be phased out.

Like the A/T2, the X/T features full-depth interlocking 3D sipe technology. Unlike the A/T2, the X/T has a tread design with staggered shoulder lugs (that provide extra biting edges for off-road performance) and open shoulder slots (for both off-road traction and water evacuation).

The X/T is backed by a 50,000-mile limited tread wear warranty. Top fitments include the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-250, Ford F-350, GMC Sierra and Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.

So here will be the makeup of the Destination family by the end of the year.

LE2 (introduced in 2012): over-the-highway use for trucks and SUVs.

AT/2: all-weather, all-terrain applications for trucks and SUVs.

X/T: all-weather, all-terrain applications for larger light trucks and SUVs.

M/T2 (introduced in 2017): “maximum traction” applications for trucks and SUVs.
