When the 2016 NCAA college football regular season and conference tournaments ended, there were two undefeated teams: the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Western Michigan Broncos.
Alabama won its semi-final College Football Playoff game on Dec. 31. Western Michigan, the Mid-American Conference champion, pits its 13-0 record against the Big 10's 10-3 Wisconsin Badgers Monday, Jan. 2, at noon ET in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. The game will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and shown on ESPN. Aerial scenes will be provided by -- you guessed it -- the Goodyear blimp.
Despite their records, Wisconsin is ranked 8th in the country, Western Michigan 12th.
Goodyear is an official partner of the College Football Playoff tournament. As a member of the "New Year's Six" -- the top bowl games included in the College Football Playoff Semifinal rotation -- the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic will host a top matchup annually, including a College Football Playoff Semifinal in 2018.
For this year's event, Goodyear commissioned two life-size sculptures of the respective mascots for the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Western Michigan University. Artist Blake McFarland used 500 Goodyear tires to make the 6-foot 5-inch works of art.
McFarland took 300 hours to complete the sculptures, which weigh roughly 400 pounds each.
