Yokohama Tire Corp. turned team building into bicycle building. At the tire company's recent national sales meeting, Yokohama executives, sales team members and corporate employees built bikes for youths of the Orange County Boys & Girls Club.

Twelve teams of Yokohama employees built the bikes from the tires up, and they were awarded points and medals based on their sales presentations to a panel.

The employees knew the bikes were to be given to youths at the Boys & Girls Club, but they didn't know the children would surprise them and receive their bikes in person. The children also were given backpacks filled with school supplies.

“It was really an emotional moment for everyone,” said Shinichi Takimoto, president of Yokohama Tire Corp. “A new bike means a lot to kids, including a newfound sense of freedom. These children from the Boys and Girls Club never had one before so it was very impactful for Yokohama to see them get their very first bicycle. The kids loved the fact that they got to meet the builders and will always associate them with their new bike.”
