Donald B. Rice Tire Co. Inc. marked its 60th anniversary in 2016 and will have more to celebrate in 2017 when a six-bay expansion to its flagship store in Frederick, Md., is complete.
The new bays are expected to be ready by the middle of 2017.
A third-generation, family-owned independent tire dealership, Rice Tire serves retail, commercial, and wholesale customers through ten locations, two tire warehouses, and a retreading plant.
The Rice Tire story began when founder Donald B. Rice Sr. opened a gas station in Frederick, Md., in 1929. Rice Tire dates its anniversary date to 1956, the year Donald began selling and servicing tires for commercial vehicles and large construction equipment, and the modern company began to take shape. Ken Rice, the youngest of Donald’s three sons, took over in 1975. Ken’s son- in-law, Chris Chase, is the company’s current CEO and leads the management team. The company is headquartered in Frederick.
To help celebrate the 60-year milestone, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. hosted a dinner in June at the Ceresville Mansion in Frederick. Several members of Goodyear’s executive management team flew in from Akron, Ohio, for the event. The executives presented an award to Chris and Angela Chase in honor of Rice Tire’s commitment to selling Goodyear brand tires for 44 of its 60 years.
Rice Tire also held an open house in September at its newly remodeled service center in Cumberland, Md. The expansion, completed in April, added five service bays. The Cumberland open house featured Dale Earnhardt Jr’s #88 Nationwide car, and several NASCAR prizes were given out throughout the event.
All Rice Tire locations offer passenger and light truck tire sales and service as well as automotive repair, along with mechanical repair and tires for commercial vehicles. Rice Tire’s Maryland stores are located in the communities of Frederick, Halethorpe, Cumberland, Gaithersburg, Forestville, and Hagerstown. The Virginia stores are in Manassas, Winchester, and Brandy Station.
The company serves customers in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
