Midas franchisee Alan Mahrt is on a mission to grow. He's recently opened a new two-story Midas store in Ankeny, Iowa, a suburb of Des Moines, after adding seven new stores in 2016. He's also planning to repaint and remodel all 42 of his stores in six states.

The ribbon cutting ceremony in Ankeny, Iowa, represents just one of many big investments Midas franchisee Alan Mahrt is making in the chain.

The ribbon cutting ceremony in Ankeny, Iowa, represents just one of many big investments Midas franchisee Alan Mahrt is making in the chain.

“The Ankeny store is my baby,” says Mahrt, who in 2016 earned Midas’ Franchisee of the Year award. “It’s a $1.6 million investment; it comes with LED lighting and all of the latest and greatest equipment; we are very confident about this location, our expansion plans and the Midas brand in general.”

The Ankeny store represents the latest move in a concerted drive by Auto Systems Experts Inc. to expand its Midas footprint in the Midwest and Plains states. Mahrt serves as president of the Iowa-based Auto Systems Experts, and is a Midas veteran of 28 years.

The renovation plans represent a $6 million investment in the business.

“On the operations side, tires are a major opportunity," Mahrt says. "TBC is a tire expert, and with their direction and support they’ve enabled us to offer our customers quality, brand-name tires at highly competitive prices. Going forward, this will result in more customers and new opportunities to work our magic on their cars and deliver the wow factor."

TBC Corp. owns the Midas brand.
