Doug Conley Sr., founding partner and CEO of Shamrock Marketing Inc., died on April 21, 2017. He was 69.

Conley began his career in the tire industry in 1970 with General Tire as a marketing manager for Canada. He founded and owned several businesses and holding companies over his career.

In 1992 he was a founding partner and owner in Shamrock Marketing Inc. of Louisville, Ky., which supplies Bulldog curing envelopes and rubber products, consumables, and equipment to the tire retread industry. 

In 1980, Conley was a founding partner in Pilote Marketing Inc. a wholesale distributor of inner tubes, specialty tires, curing tubes, and curing envelopes, that was headquartered in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. 

Conley's service to the tire retread industry included several years on the board of directors of the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau.

Born December 31, 1947, in Toronto, Conley studied business at Seneca College and started his career at the Toronto Star newspaper. His lifelong passion was advertising and marketing, and he worked for Ogilvy & Mather before joining General Tire.

In 1993 Conley was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel. He was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast and collector of motorcycles and classic cars.

“Doug was a lifelong philanthropist whose charisma, laugh, unique sense of style, and sense of humor will be missed,” reads his obituary.

He is survived by his wife, Janice (Desautel) Conley; sons, Douglas Conley, Jr. (Leigh-Ann) and their children Claire Conley and Noelle Conley; Patrick Conley and his child Payton Conley; daughter, Heather Hickling (Duane) and their children Gwyneth Hickling and Charles Hickling.
