The owner of the two busiest Midas locations in Canada says offering an extensive tire inventory and more than a dozen tire brands has transformed his business. Consider Jeff Hall’s success a sign of what’s to come at Midas stores across North America.

Hall says he’s offering consumers what they want: one-stop car care and name-brand tires at “sharp” prices.

Hall’s stores are the busiest of any of the 148 Midas locations in Canada, and they are among the top 10 for sales in the 1,300 stores in North America.

Midas, which joined TBC Corp. in 2012, says the franchise chain “is gearing up to become the future new home for premium tires across North America.”

Hall says tires account for three times as much business as mufflers and exhaust work. And Midas says that’s “a harbinger of things to come at Midas.”

Hall owns two stores in Kingston, Ontario, and in 2015 he opened a store on Gardiners Road that was built from the ground up. It features 40-foot ceilings, four express drive-through lanes, six additional bays, 6,400 square feet of space and 900 square feet dedicated to a tire showroom. He says it’s the second largest tire showroom in town.

“With my focus on tires, I wanted a retail presence on a main street,“ says Hall, who built the store in a high-traffic retail area next to a new McDonald’s.  “I want customers to think of us when they think of tires, and with our location, we take advantage of drop-in business. We have the showroom and the location to help us sell, and customers can’t believe the tire selection we offer.”

When customers pull into the store’s express lanes, they’re greeted by attendants who collect vehicle information and walk them to a viewing area to observe the work. Every customer receives a detailed report on the health of the tires and any alignment needs.  “My vision is to surpass car dealers’ service,” says  Hall, who previously worked as an operations manager at a new car dealership. He’s also owned 10 martial arts schools.

“We have the famous brands, great prices and top-notch service. And when you buy tires from me, you get free tire repairs and free unlimited rotations — that’s a tremendous value. The competition is not prepared to do what we do.”

Ron Seagle, executive vice president and general manager of the Midas brand says, “Jeff is just one of the many franchisees who are seizing the new opportunities at Midas.

“Midas is a growing, customer- and franchisee-focused organization.  We have a lot to offer folks looking to build their business by teaming up with us — a thriving brand, an expanding service menu, including brand-name tires, an attractive package of financial incentives and a very exciting business opportunity.”
