Modern Tire Dealer and Auto Service Professional won seven medals for editorial excellence at the 26th International Automotive Media Competition (IAMC).

MTD’s September 2016 story on Tire Dealer of the Year Alpio Barbara was a gold medal winner in the Personality Profile category for Senior Editor Joy Kopcha. Barbara is the owner of Redwood General Tire Service Co. in Redwood City, Calif. The MTD staff also won a gold for its 2016 Facts Section in the In-Depth Report category.

Entered in the Magazine Writing/Graphics Division, MTD took home the following International Automotive Media Awards for stories/issues published in 2016:

  • Gold: Personality Profile, “One man. One superstore,” Joy Kopcha; 2016 Facts Section, Bob Ulrich, Lori Mavrigian, Ann Neal, Kopcha, Neal Weingart.
  • Silver: Business, "There are only two problems you can have in a tire store," Wayne Williams.
  • Bronze: Technical Reference, “Performance Handbook,” Ulrich, Neal, Kopcha, Mavrigian, Jacques Gordon, Kevin Rohlwing; Editorial, “Race against a racing ban,” Ulrich; Business, “Tariffs and time are helping dealers compete against low-cost import tires," Neal.

Mike Mavrigian, editor of MTD’s sister publication, Auto Service Professional, won a silver medallion in the Technical/General category for his story on brake service tips in the January/February issue. MTD and ASP are part of Bobit Business Media Inc.

Csaba Csere, known as the “Car King” of American media, received the IAMC Lifetime Achievement Award.

The IAMC awards ceremony was held in the Brembo North America Media Tent at the 39th annual Concours d’Elegance of America in Plymouth, Mich., July 30. Brembo North America Inc. also sponsored the gold medals.

The silver medal sponsors were Great Dane Trailers/Great Dane Ltd., Hyundai Motor America Inc. and Nissan USA/Nissan North America Inc. The bronze medal sponsor was Meguiar's Car Care Products/Meguiar's Inc.

The purpose of the IAMC is to “recognize and encourage excellence in all forms of automotive media.” The competition is administered, produced and owned by the International Society for Vehicle Preservation, a non-profit educational organization, under the direction of Operations Director Tom Kelley.
