Bridgestone Americas Inc.’s Bandag retread plant in Oxford, N.C., has been named a Carolina Star Site by the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL).

This is the second time the plant has received the Star Site recognition for the effective promotion of safety and health management systems. The first award was presented in 2013. The plant has about 180 employees.

Bridgestone says the Carolina Star Program recognizes sites that have established a cooperative relationship between employees and management at a workplace by implementing programs that meet a set of safety criteria, ensure a safe and healthful environment and demonstrate leadership by the company in the areas of health and safety.

“Safety is ingrained in all operations at Bridgestone,” says Jim DeMouy, vice president of environment, health, safety and sustainability. “The team at our Oxford Plant has done an exceptional job living our company motto, ‘Safety First, Always.’ Achieving this level of safety for a second time is a testament to all teammates, from leadership to the plant floor who embrace safety as a core value.”

Bandag is a business of Bridgestone Americas.
