Sumitomo Rubber USA (SRUSA) and the United Steelworkers have tentatively come to terms on their next collective bargaining agreement.
The proposed contract is subject to review and ratification by the USW 135L membership, and it is expected that a vote will scheduled by the union sometime in the next few days.
Bill Jackson, vice president of human resources at Sumitomo Rubber USA, said, “Both parties in the negotiations were thorough in their preparations and leveraged a longstanding respectful relationship to come to a tentative agreement. SRUSA looks forward to ratification and a continued productive relationship with the USW.”
Sumitomo Rubber USA is the wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd., which operates the Buffalo, N.Y. tire factory.
Sumitomo Rubber Industries owns Sumitomo Rubber North America Inc., which was known as Falken Tire Corp. until Jan. 1, 2016. Sumitomo Rubber North America is headquartered in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
Sumitomo Rubber North America markets Falken tires to the original equipment and replacement markets, Dunlop motorcycle tires to the OE and replacement markets, Dunlop light vehicle tires to the Japanese OEMs, and Ohtsu tires to the replacement market.
