The 2017 Dodge Viper ACR fitted with Kumho Ecsta V720 tires once again will try to set the fastest production car lap ever recorded at the Nürburgring race track in Nürburg, Germany, on Aug. 25.
The record is 6:52.01 – more than 118 miles an hour over the 12.9-mile track – set by a 2017 Lamborghini Huracan Performante earlier this year. The Viper, driven by Dominik Farnbacher, turned in a best lap time of 7:03.45 in July. According to Road & Track, the Viper’s track time was:
* the third-fastest production car lap ever recorded at Nürburgring.
* the fastest manual-transmission and rear-drive lap at the track.
* the fastest time ever set with an American car at the circuit.
The attempt at the track record was funded privately -- the Viper's manufacturer, FCA US LLC, is not participating. There also will be no original equipment support for the second run. Mechanical problems with one of the two $145,000 Vipers brought to the track and poor weather reduced the number of attempts the first time around.
Kumho also is the supplier of OE tires to the 2017 Dodge Viper, the last model year for the production of the 25-year-old supercar.
