“Several of Michelin’s plants across the U.S. and Canada continue to operate at full or reduced capacity, while others are still idled due to broad effects of the COVID-19 response,” a Michelin North America Inc. spokesman told MTD.
“The company is following established state and local health guidelines closely, keeping employees' health and safety as the highest priority concerning staffing and other operational decisions.”
Michelin is continuing to follow Centers for Disease Control guidelines "and a number of health and safety measures have been implemented across our sites."
These include "shift schedules to allow extra time for social distancing on arrival and departure; every work station disinfected before and after each shift (two times between workers); employees participate in personal health screenings prior to facility admittance; every task in the plants measured for six-foot separation; ample stocks of masks for all employees, including tasks that don't allow six-foot separation; as well as added staff and frequency for cleaning common areas like breakrooms and restrooms."
Michelin North America is gradually bringing employees back to corporate-office sites after weeks of remote working procedures. "This starts with a small percentage of those employees returning to the office this month."
Michelin has 11 plants in the United States, three plants in Canada and two plants in Mexico. Combined, the plants have a total maximum capacity of nearly 229,000 tires per day, according to MTD data.
