Goodyear tire safety promotion takes to the skies

July 12, 2001

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s three North American blimps will visit more than 25 cities throughout the United States this summer to promote tire safety.

The airships will use their signs that can be seen up to a mile away to remind drivers to check tire inflation pressure and tread depth, plus visit local Goodyear dealerships for a free safety inspection.

"Goodyear will tie in local promotions with its dealers and stores wherever possible to generate interest and excitement with our customers," says John Polhemus, president of Goodyear's North American Tire unit. "Our retailers continue to be at the forefront of consumer safety."

Cities involved in the promotion include New Orleans, La.; Memphis, Tenn.; Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Wash.; Indianapolis, Ind.; Detroit, Mich.; Boston, Mass.; Cleveland, Ohio; Miami, Fla.; Atlanta, Ga; Houston and Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas; and San Diego and Los Angeles, Calif. Other cities will be scheduled as the tour continues.

Goodyear estimates more than 30 million people will see the blimps, which are based in Akron, Ohio; Pompano Beach, Fla.; and Los Angeles.
