Sears wants Bridgestone/Firestone to pick up legal tab

June 29, 2001

Sears, Roebuck & Co. has asked a federal judge in Indiana to make Bridgestone/Firestone (BFS)Inc. pay its legal costs and potential damages for lawsuits triggered by Ford Explorer roll-overs involving tire tread separations.

Both companies have been targeted by plaintiffs throughout the country regarding the controversial issue.

"Sears was named as a defendant because they sold the tires," says a BFS spokesperson.

BFS officials have not revealed their next move in relation to Sears' request.
