Goodyear's shipments both increased and decreased in May

June 20, 2001

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s consumer replacement tire shipments in May were up nearly 4% above last year's levels while the tiremaker's commercial replacement tire shipments were less compared to the same period in the year 2000.

Goodyear also has reported that its consumer and commercial original equipment tire shipments dropped last month.

"While production levels were increased in the last week of May for the Ford-approved replacement tire lines only, significant production cutbacks were still necessary for other consumer and commercial tires," say Goodyear officials. "Additional production cutbacks are being made in June."
