MTD Facts Issue: Size popularity contest

Jan. 22, 2014

What tire sizes should you keep in inventory? That is a question every tire dealer asks himself or herself regularly.

Each dealership has its own demographics. However, a list of the most popular original equipment tire sizes from two years ago can't hurt in your decision-making.

According to the Rubber Manufacturers Association, as published in the 2014 Modern Tire Dealer Facts Issue, the most popular OE sizes in the United States in 2011 were as follows:

Passenger tires      Light truck tires

1. P215/60R16         1. LT245/75R17

2. P265/70R17         2. LT245/75R16

3. P215/55R17         3. LT 225/75R16

The OE passenger tire numbers changed in 2012. What changed? Was the number one size still P215/60R16?

To find out, check out the Facts Issue, which also looks at the most popular replacement passenger and light truck tire sizes. (Want more? Click here to see our digital edition!)
