Sullivan Tire continues its rapid expansion.

The Norwell, Mass.-based dealership recently bought Northeast Tire Co. in Bangor, Maine, one of the largest tire wholesalers in New England.

"We will keep Northeast Tire's name for the time being," says Tom Wilson, a Sullivan Tire marketing official.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Sullivan also has opened a retail store in Billericka, Maine, that contains 10 service bays, plus a new commercial truck tire center in Revere, Mass., that operates three to four service trucks.

"Other openings are planned this year," says Wilson. "We're growing by leaps and bounds."

Last year at this time, Sullivan Tire had 42 outlets. That number has grown to 53, making the family-owned dealership the 16th largest independent tire store chain in North America, according to Modern Tire Dealer data.
