Bridgestone/Firestone prepares to increase retail tire production

April 22, 2001

Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. (BFS) will call back more than 150 laid-off workers at its La Vergne, Tenn., passenger and light truck tire manufacturing plant beginning April 23.

"Strengthening sales of our passenger and light truck tires have reduced our inventories of the kinds of tires manufactured at La Vergne," says John McQuade, vice president of manufacturing for the BFS Manufacturing Operations group. "We are hopeful that future sales increases will permit us to call more employees back before the end of the year."

The announcement does not affect employees who may have been laid off at any other BFS plant.
