Giti Extends Shutdown at South Carolina Plant

April 17, 2020

Giti Tire (USA) Ltd. will extend the production suspension at its U.S. manufacturing facility in South Carolina until May 4 “to adjust for unimproved market conditions due to the impact of COVID-19.”

Production at the Chester County, S.C., facility ceased April 5, although Giti Tire has continued its sales and distribution operations to serve company dealers and customers.

At peak capacity, the plant can produce 15,000 passenger tires each day, according to MTD’s 2020 Facts Issue.

“We do not anticipate any supply interruption to our dealers and customers as Giti Tire has adequate supply and a strong supply system,” say company officials.

Giti Tire says it will continue to monitor health and government protocols “to ensure the health and safety of our employees, customers, suppliers, and communities in all aspects of operations.

“When production resumes, Giti Tire will initiate operations in a controlled manner while monitoring the market and working closely with our dealers.”

The company had initially planned to suspend production at the plant for two weeks.
